Notes from Lillehammer

Posted by Michelle:

Angie and I arrived in Lillehammer on Monday, 22 June. We wasted no time with fieldwork, sampling two lakes in the afternoon: Nevelsvatnet and Reinsvatnet, finishing just before the rain! We started early on Tuesday, sampling Mellsjoen and Hornsjoen. All four lakes are experiencing some sort of algal bloom, so the zoop net tows looked a bit like pesto. Lots of Holopedia and copepods!

Norwegians celebrate Midsummer on 23 June, so we are planning to attend the festivities at the Maihaugen Folk Museum. Photos to follow.

  1. Keep sight out for those super tiny daphnia that only Laura could actually see. They are hard to find in all that soup! But, they would be incredibly good to sample. Certainly glad that you two are not having to do Melanie’s night sampling this time of year in Norway.
