Refugio Lopez: all the way up (and down)

We celebrated my birthday with an overnight trip to Refugio Lopez.  The trail to the refugio is only a couple of miles but it is STRAIGHT UP and over lots of rocks and dust.  We spent the night and decided the trail onward to Laguna Negra was way too steep to pass with backpacks on, so I went on up to Pico Touristico by myself (and without pack) to catch the amazing view to El Tronador (“The Thunderer”), a glacier-clad volcano. Also visible was the Osorno volcano in Chile.  A nice trip in any case, though I could barely walk for the three following days because of the impact of descending about 6000′ in about three miles.   PICS here:  LINK.
